Graduation Speech: Appreciation to My / Our Classmates, Parents and / or Teachers.

An introduction to your next assignment:

Listen to JK Rawling who speaks at Harvard and get some inspiration of how you could speak to your classmates or your parents at the end of this school term or to younger students at Hjalmar Lundbohmsskolan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHGqp8lz36c

If you google, you can certainly find more inspiration for this task. One example is this speech, held by a student at a college: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPmBVrfPkLQ

What might be important to know is that I won't grade this assignment in any ways. I want all of you to record a speech and send it to me. I can give you some feedback, but this feedback won't affect your final grade in this course. This is just to practise English. You will get a chance to listen to different accents in quite a formal tone, then write your own script and finally record it.

Graduation SpeechAppreciation to My / Our Classmates, Parents and / or Teachers

  • Start by writing a draft. What would you like to say at the end of this school year, at the time of graduation? (To whom and for what would you like to give thanks at this special day? What will you remember from your school time? What helped you to struggle and meet challenges along the way? What might be the fun memories from this time?)
  • Remember to structure the text, by writing an introduction and in the end, a conclusion, to show that you are about to end your speech.
  • Don't talk too fast and remember to use short pauses, so that the listeners will be able to reflect on what you say.
Time: week 2-4.

Length: about 3 - 4 minutes.

Hand in: your recording (audio file) + your script (Teams Home Assignment)
